Quick answer

Start with the day you want. According to SkyGate's listings read on 29 September 2026, teamLab Forest Fukuoka, Marine World Uminonakamichi and Moff Animal Cafe are indoor venues, Fukuoka Tower and the Nakagawa River Cruise are for views, the Kyushu National Museum is in Dazaifu, and the four passes cover city buses, the city subway, JR trains or buses and ferries across Kyushu.

The short answer

Decide what the day is for before you pick a ticket. Three Fukuoka products are indoor venues (an art museum, an aquarium and an animal cafe), two are about seeing the city from above or from the water, one is a national museum outside the city in Dazaifu, and four are passes that only move you around and admit you to nothing. A pass is an entitlement, not an itinerary, so none of the sights below is included in any pass.

A rainy or hot day: teamLab Forest, Marine World or Moff

teamLab Forest Fukuoka is a digital art museum. The operator describes two areas: a Catching and Collecting Forest where you explore with your smartphone and build a collection book, and an Athletics Forest built as a three-dimensional space for using your body.[2] SkyGate sells one option, admission, for a selected date and time. Its listing says the venue is dark with uneven terrain and unstable footing, that access may be limited if you are pregnant, use a wheelchair or cane, or carry a child, and that last admission is 7:30 PM. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, with each paying adult accompanying up to three children.[1] SkyGate's redemption text names BOSS E-ZO FUKUOKA, 5th floor, but XTOUR could not confirm the building from the operator, whose access page did not load. See the teamLab Forest Fukuoka page on XTOUR.

Marine World Uminonakamichi is the aquarium. SkyGate describes about 30,000 creatures across 350 species, with a Genkai Sea Tank and a Deep Seas of Kyushu Tank, and says the admission option includes animal shows.[3] The operator gives its address as 18-28 Nishitozaki, Higashi Ward, and showed hours of 9:30 to 17:30 with last entry at 16:30 for the day XTOUR read it.[4] SkyGate's listing says tickets for children under 6 must be bought on site.[3] XTOUR did not read the show schedule, so check it on the operator's site.

Moff Animal Cafe Lalaport Fukuoka Ticket is the smallest of the three and the only one that is a walk-in stop inside a mall: the operator places it on the 4th floor of LaLaport Fukuoka and says no reservations are needed.[6] It lists capybaras, owls, a two-toed sloth and colourful birds, and the SkyGate option covers standard admission only. The operator's page shows a drink bar as a separate, mandatory charge, and SkyGate's price-includes line says only "Admission", so whether the drink is covered is not stated. The two sources also differ on children: SkyGate says children under 18 need an adult aged 18 or over, while the operator's wording is children below elementary school age. Re-entry is not permitted, according to both.[6][5]

XTOUR's reading: choose teamLab Forest for a physically active, phone-led visit with older children, Marine World for a longer aquarium visit with shows, and Moff when you want a short, no-booking-slot stop in the city.

A view or the water: Fukuoka Tower or the Nakagawa River Cruise

The Fukuoka Tower Observation Deck ticket admits you to the deck. The operator gives the tower's height as 234 metres and lists three levels: a play floor at 116 metres, a sky cafe at 120 and the top observation room at 123. It shows hours of 9:30 to 22:00 with last entry at 21:30, and says the tower is about 25 minutes by bus from Hakata Station and about 20 from Tenjin.[8] SkyGate sells adult admission and a student option for ages 6 to 15 with a valid student ID, and says games such as the Sky Gacha are at your own expense. SkyGate's option data shows both options valid only until 5 October 2026, so check the date before you rely on it.[7]

The Nakagawa River Cruise in Fukuoka is on the water instead. SkyGate calls it an open-deck cruise past Nakasu, riverside food stalls and Canal City Hakata, with live commentary in English and Korean. It has three options: a Nakasu Sightseeing Cruise (Mondays to Thursdays, in the day), a Nakasu Sightseeing Cruise (All Days) that is a night cruise from Monday to Thursday and includes both day and night cruises from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays, and a Hakata Bay Sightseeing Cruise (Mondays to Thursdays). The Nakasu options are listed at 30 minutes and the Hakata Bay option at 45. On the day XTOUR read the calendar, only the first option showed open dates, so check the others before planning around them. SkyGate gives no meeting point; its address line names 6-3-1 Nishinakasu, and XTOUR has not verified the boarding point.[9]

XTOUR's reading: the tower gives one fixed vantage point at a set price, while the cruise changes with the option you pick. Take the Hakata Bay option if you want the water route SkyGate says passes Fukuoka Tower, and the All Days option if you want the night cruise.

A national museum outside the city: Kyushu National Museum

The Kyushu National Museum Ticket is a different kind of day: SkyGate places the museum in Dazaifu and says the option includes admission to the fourth-floor Cultural Exchange Exhibition, which it describes as tracing Japan's connections with Asia from prehistory to the Edo period.[10] The operator's English site lists that exhibition on the 4th floor. The option does not name special exhibitions, and the operator lists a special exhibition from 31 October 2026, so do not assume it is covered.[10][11] SkyGate's listing says children under 18 and seniors over 70 enter free, that under-18s must show ID and students must show a student ID at the redemption counter, and that the voucher is valid to 28 March 2027.[10] See the Kyushu National Museum page on XTOUR.

Getting around the city: bus pass or subway pass

The two city passes solve the same problem differently, and neither is a ticket to any venue.

The Fukuoka City Bus One-Day Pass has two options: city buses only, or city buses plus the Dazaifu Liner Bus (Tabito).[12] Nishitetsu's page describes the same two passes and says the Tabito runs between Hakata Station or Fukuoka Airport and the Dazaifu area.[13] XTOUR's reading: only the second option is aimed at a Dazaifu day; neither SkyGate nor Nishitetsu says the Tabito stops at the museum, so confirm the stop. SkyGate says the ticket is digital, needs phone connectivity, and that screenshots are not accepted. Nishitetsu's page describes a scratch-off pass, so how boarding works with SkyGate's digital version is something to confirm with the seller.[13][12]

The Fukuoka Subway Pass is a 1 Day Pass. SkyGate says it covers the Airport, Hakozaki and Nanakuma lines and is valid for foreign visitors only, and the operator's English page describes a 1 Day Pass for all subway lines.[15] The catch is collection: the voucher can only be exchanged at the H.I.S. / EASYGO counter on the 1st floor of the Fukuoka Airport International Terminal, with your passport, and SkyGate says the option is valid for use within three months of booking.[14] XTOUR's reading: the subway pass suits someone who passes the airport counter anyway; the bus pass has no counter step in SkyGate's listing and is the one with a Dazaifu option.

Across Kyushu: JR Kyushu Rail Pass or Kyushu SUNQ Pass

These are the two regional passes, and they cover different vehicles.

The JR Kyushu Rail Pass is for JR trains including Shinkansen, limited express and local trains. SkyGate lists six options: All Kyushu for three, five or seven days, Northern Kyushu for three or five days, and Southern Kyushu for three days. Its listing says Northern covers Fukuoka, Oita, Kumamoto, Nagasaki and Saga, and Southern covers Oita, Kumamoto, Miyazaki and Kagoshima. It is not valid on JR Kyushu buses or on the Sanyo Shinkansen between Hakata and Kokura.[16] JR Kyushu says passengers must show a passport with a visa stamp or temporary visitor seal.[17] SkyGate says the pass is redeemed at stations including Hakata, Kokura, Mojiko, Saga, Nagasaki, Sasebo, Beppu, Oita and Kumamoto.[16]

The Kyushu SUNQ Pass is for buses and ferries. The SUNQ operator describes unlimited rides on most expressway and local buses and certain ferries across Kyushu's seven prefectures and Shimonoseki, and SkyGate says approximately 2,400 routes.[19] SkyGate lists five options: Entire Kyushu for three or four days, Northern Kyushu for two or three days, and Southern Kyushu for three days. Its listing says some express buses need seat reservations, and that the pass is digital and needs phone connectivity.[18]

XTOUR's reading: pick the JR pass if your stops are on the rail lines it covers and you want the Shinkansen, and the SUNQ pass if you plan to ride buses or ferries; the two are not interchangeable, and the SUNQ pass does not include trains.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

Can Japanese residents use the Fukuoka Subway Pass or the JR Kyushu Rail Pass?

According to SkyGate's listings, the Fukuoka Subway Pass is valid for foreign visitors only, and the JR Kyushu Rail Pass is exclusively valid for international travellers and cannot be used by Japanese citizens and residents. JR Kyushu's own page says passengers must show a passport with a visa stamp or temporary visitor seal. SkyGate's SUNQ listing states no eligibility rule, and the SUNQ operator's English home page, as read, does not either.

Does the Kyushu National Museum ticket include special exhibitions?

SkyGate's option text names only the fourth-floor Cultural Exchange Exhibition and does not say special exhibitions are included. The museum's English site lists a special exhibition from 31 October 2026 to 11 January 2027, so confirm with the seller before assuming it is covered.

Where do I collect the Fukuoka Subway Pass?

SkyGate says the voucher can only be exchanged at the H.I.S. / EASYGO counter on the 1st floor of the Fukuoka Airport International Terminal, with your e-voucher and passport, and gives the counter's hours as 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

Which Nakagawa River Cruise option goes out to Hakata Bay?

According to SkyGate, only the Hakata Bay Sightseeing Cruise (Mondays to Thursdays) does; its description lists Canal Bay, Hakata Bayside, Yahoo! Dome and Fukuoka Tower. The two Nakasu Sightseeing Cruise options stay on the Nakagawa River.
