Have Fun passes compared by region

SkyGate sells eleven Have Fun passes: regional passes, a food pass, a two-week national pass and a Kansai Premium pass. This guide separates them by region, by how many picks each one gives and by the rail-pass bundles that four of them offer.

Quick answer

Pick the Have Fun pass for the region you will stay in, because SkyGate's listings say each regional pass lets you choose a fixed number of attractions and facilities, usually three, and the Have Fun in Japan pass lets you choose 21 across regions. SkyGate's pages say a pass becomes valid on first scan and is not for Japanese citizens. XTOUR has not read the full partner lists, so check them before you buy.

The short answer

Have Fun passes are choose-your-own entitlements, not itineraries. SkyGate's listings describe a pass as a QR code you scan for a fixed number of attractions, meals, shopping offers or transport items chosen from a partner list, and a pass is not a claim that you will visit anything on it.[1] The decision is which region's list you will actually use, and whether you want a rail pass bundled in. The operator's About page lists Have Fun passes for Okinawa, Tohoku, Kansai, Tokyo, Hokkaido, Okayama, Hiroshima, Wakayama, Tottori and other regions, plus a Japan Food pass and an all-Japan pass.[12]

How every Have Fun pass works

SkyGate's listings for the Kansai, Okinawa, Tokyo and Hokkaido passes say the pass is valid for seven days once you scan the code at your first attraction or facility, and say the pass is not available for purchase or use by Japanese citizens.[1] The Okinawa, Tokyo and Hokkaido listings also say a valid passport or ID is needed for verification during ticket collection, and that if several tickets are bought in one booking the start date applies to all of them.[5][3][4] The listings point to the operator's pages for redemption points, opening hours, public holidays and the list of partners, and XTOUR has not read those lists.[1] That matters for two reasons. XTOUR cannot say which named venues are free entry and which are discounts, and cannot promise that a venue you have in mind is on the list.[4]

The Kansai pair: Have Fun in Kansai Pass and the Premium Pass

The Have Fun in Kansai Pass - 1 Week Free Pass is the Kansai regional list. SkyGate's description names the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens and the Mosaic Big Ferris Wheel as examples and says the choices include meal vouchers, souvenirs and transport such as trains, buses and cruises. It has two options: Select 6, and a promotional 50% off Select 3 option.[1] Whether the promotional option is on sale on a given day is not established, so check the option list when you book.

The Have Fun in Kansai Premium Pass Includes Optional 1-Day Universal Studios Japan Ticket is a different structure: SkyGate describes two portions, a Premium Area and a Have Fun Pass, and says the Premium Area's most popular choices are a 1-day Universal Studios Japan ticket, a USJ Express Pass and an airport transfer from Kansai Airport, while the Have Fun portion lets you choose 3 options. The only option, named Have Fun in Kansai Premium Pass, does not name a Universal Studios Japan ticket or an airport transfer, so what you receive is not confirmed by the option data.[2] Treat the USJ ticket and the transfer as things to confirm with SkyGate before you book, not as inclusions.

Tokyo, Okinawa and Hokkaido

The Have Fun in Tokyo Pass - 1 Week Free Pass offers Select 3, and SkyGate's description names Tokyo Dome City Amusement Park, Small Worlds Tokyo and a one-day trip to Keikyu Misaki Maguro among the choices.[3] A second option adds a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child show seat. SkyGate says the show is performed by a Japanese cast in the local language, is for persons aged 16 and over, and that tickets must be redeemed one hour before the performance.[3] XTOUR's calendar read on 2026-09-29 showed no open dates for that option; SkyGate's own booking flow, not this guide, confirms whether a date has since opened.

The Have Fun in Okinawa Pass - 1 Week Free Pass has one option, Select 3, and SkyGate names Ryukyumura, Okinawa World and the Southeast Botanical Gardens as examples.[4]

The Have Fun in Hokkaido Pass - 1 Week Free Pass has one option, Select 3, and SkyGate names Asahiyama Zoo as an example. Its highlights refer to Asahiyama and its address is in Asahikawa, and how far the partner list reaches across Hokkaido is not established.[5]

The rail-bundle passes: Wakayama, Okayama, Hiroshima and Tottori

Four regional passes each have a second option that adds a rail pass, and the rail pass is different in each.

  • Have Fun in Wakayama Pass - 1 Week Free Pass: the second option adds a Kansai Wide-Area 5-Day Rail Pass, which SkyGate describes as unlimited train and bus rides for five consecutive days, valid for people aged 12 and over. SkyGate names Wakayama Castle, Kimiidera Temple and Animal Play Zone Adventure World as examples.[6]
  • Have Fun in Okayama Pass - 1 Week Free Pass: the same Kansai Wide-Area 5-Day Rail Pass option, with the Yumeji Art Museum and the Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art named as examples.[7]
  • Have Fun in Hiroshima Pass - 1 Week Free Pass: the second option adds a Kansai-Hiroshima Area 5-Day Pass, and Orizuru Tower and the Yamato Museum are named as examples.[8]
  • Have Fun in Tottori Pass - 1 Week Free Pass: the second option adds a JR Kansai WIDE Area 5 Day Pass that SkyGate says is valid 90 days from the booking date, and the Sand Museum is named as an example.[9]

SkyGate's titles for these rail passes differ, and XTOUR has not established that the Kansai Wide-Area 5-Day Rail Pass and the JR Kansai WIDE Area 5 Day Pass are the same product. See the Kansai rail passes compared guide on XTOUR for the JR-West passes and their operator's rules. The bundle options also show earlier voucher validity dates in SkyGate's option data, 27 or 28 December 2026, than the pass-only options, so read the date shown for the option you pick.[9][8][7][6]

The Food pass and the Japan pass

The Have Fun Japan Food Pass - 1 Week Free Pass is for meals, not sights. SkyGate describes discount coupons at participating restaurants across Tokyo, Kyoto, Hyogo and Osaka, with gourmet food walks or sake tastings as further choices, and says each facility can be entered only once. Which items are coupons and which are paid experiences is not established. The option is Select 3 dining experiences or vouchers.[10]

The Have Fun in Japan Pass - 2 Weeks Free Pass is the widest. SkyGate's option is Select 21, valid for 14 consecutive days after first use, and the operator describes an all-regions ticket for 21 attractions within two weeks.[12] SkyGate's region lists inside the same listing do not match each other: the description names Hokkaido, Tokyo, Kansai, Wakayama, Fukui, Okayama, Hiroshima, Tottori, Saga and Okinawa, while the highlights mention 11 regions and a Yamaguchi onsen, so the region set is unverified.[11]

How to choose

  • One base in Kansai: in XTOUR's reading, start with the Have Fun in Kansai Pass - 1 Week Free Pass, and consider the Premium Pass only after SkyGate confirms what its Premium Area contains.
  • Tokyo, Okinawa or Hokkaido: the matching regional pass, since each has a single Select 3 pass option apart from the Tokyo show bundle.
  • Wakayama, Okayama, Hiroshima or Tottori with trains: the bundled option of that region's pass, with the rail pass named in the option title.
  • Meals only: the Have Fun Japan Food Pass.
  • Several regions in two weeks: the Have Fun in Japan pass, with its 21 picks, in XTOUR's reading only if you can name enough partner items across the regions you will really visit.

Before you book

  • SkyGate's listings say the passes are not for Japanese citizens and that a passport or ID may be needed at ticket collection.[3]
  • The seven-day or 14-day clock starts at the first scan, according to SkyGate.[11][1]
  • Check the partner list on the operator's pages for the venues you care about, as SkyGate does not reproduce it.[1]

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

When does a Have Fun pass start counting its days?

SkyGate's listings for the Kansai, Okinawa, Tokyo, Hokkaido and Food passes say the pass becomes valid for seven days when you scan the code at the first attraction or facility. For the Have Fun in Japan pass, SkyGate's option text says 14 consecutive days after first use.

Can Japanese citizens use these passes?

SkyGate's listings say the Kansai, Okinawa, Tokyo, Hokkaido and Food passes are not available for purchase or use by Japanese citizens, and the option text of several other passes says they are for international travellers or non-Japanese citizens.

Does the pass list every attraction I can choose?

Not on SkyGate. Its listings name a few examples and point to the operator's pages for redemption points and the full list, and XTOUR has not read those lists, so it cannot say whether a particular venue is on the pass or whether an item is free entry or a discount.
