Why go
Bến Thành Market (Chợ Bến Thành) is a covered market in central Ho Chi Minh City; its management board's history page says the present market was built by the contractor Brossard et Maupin from 1913 and completed in 1914, and that the name comes from a river landing (bến) by the old Bát Quái citadel (thành). The market is run by the Bến Thành Market Management Board, a public unit set up by the District 1 People's Committee in 1994. The market rules say traders must display prices and sell at the displayed price, and that buyers may decline to buy, check labels, prices and weights, and ask for a lawful invoice. This record is the market building, not the surrounding Bến Thành ward, the metro station or the street night market.
