Blenheim Palace
Blenheim Palace is a country house with its park and gardens at the edge of the town of Woodstock in Oxfordshire, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
Why go
Blenheim Palace has been the ancestral home of the Dukes of Marlborough since 1705, according to its World Heritage Site page, and has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987; the palace's website footer names the Blenheim Palace Heritage Foundation Charity, a registered charity. Its State Rooms page describes the Great Hall with Sir James Thornhill's painted ceiling of 1716, the Saloon painted by Louis Laguerre, the State Rooms and the Long Library. The palace's FAQ says all tickets must be bought in advance, online even on the day of the visit, and that annual pass holders do not need to book; its tickets page nevertheless also lists on-site ticket rates, so check the palace's own pages before travelling. The palace's address is Woodstock, Oxfordshire OX20 1UL: Oxford is a travel base for it, not its location.
