Why go

The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long is the heritage area of the Thăng Long imperial citadel in Ba Đình, Hanoi, managed by the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre, a unit of the Hanoi People's Committee whose remit also covers the Cổ Loa relic site. The centre's open letter says excavations from December 2002 over 19,000 m² exposed layers from the 7th to 9th centuries through the Lý, Trần, Lê, Mạc and Nguyễn dynasties, and that the World Heritage Committee recognised the central sector of the citadel in 2010. Its visitor rules ask visitors to follow the signposted route, dress neatly and politely, park vehicles at 19C Hoàng Diệu and not fly drones, and say filming needs the centre's permission and groups wanting a guide contact its guiding office. The site links to online ticket booking. This record is the heritage area, not the Hanoi Flag Tower and not the Cổ Loa citadel.
