Karatsu Castle, also called Maizuru Castle, is at 8-1 Higashijonai in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture. The Karatsu Tourism Association says the castle was completed in 1602 by Terazawa Hirotaka, a vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and that the castle in its present form was completed in 1966. It stands in Maizuru Park, which is known for cherry blossoms and wisteria, and the association lists a souvenir shop on the first floor. The association gave hours of 9:00-17:00 with last entry at 16:40, varying by season, and closure on 29-31 December, on the page read on 29 September 2026.
