Lascaux II

Lascaux II

Lascaux II is a seasonal facsimile of two rooms of the Lascaux cave, about 200 metres from the original, at Montignac-Lascaux.

Why go

Lascaux II is a facsimile, opened in 1983, of the Salle des Taureaux (Hall of the Bulls) and the Diverticule axial (Axial Diverticulum) of the original Lascaux cave, built about 200 metres from it at Montignac-Lascaux in the Dordogne. The operator's site gives the address as 488 chemin de la Grotte and says the site reopened on 4 April 2026; the Lascaux Dordogne tourism site lists daily opening from 22 August to 1 November 2026 and groups only, by reservation, outside that period (both read 2026-10-03). It is a seasonal site: check the official calendar before you travel. It is a replica, not the original cave.
