Sa Pa Stone Church
Nhà thờ đá Sapa · Giáo xứ Sapa
The Sa Pa stone church is the Catholic parish church of Sa Pa, dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and built in 1926 in the centre of the town, in the Diocese of Hưng Hóa.
Why go
The parish's own history says the Sa Pa parish was founded in 1902 by priests of the Paris Foreign Missions Society and that its church was built in 1926 on a separate plot in the middle of the town, with Our Lady of the Rosary as patron; it belongs to the Diocese of Hưng Hóa. The same page says Bishop Paul Ramond was laid to rest there in 1944 and that his tomb is in the church grounds, that the church and parish buildings were later used as a store and a school, and that the authorities allowed the church to be repaired and parish life to resume in 1995. It is a parish church in use; visitor rules and service times are not stated here. This record is the church, not the square in front of it.
