Why go
This record is the mansion, not Tjong A Fie the person. The mansion's own site describes a two-storey house of 35 rooms built in 1895 around a large open courtyard, with Chinese, Malay and Art Deco influences, and calls it a registered historical landmark as well as a cultural heritage building and museum; Wikidata and OpenStreetMap give 1900 as its date instead. The site says Tjong A Fie, who came from China to Deli at 17 and was appointed Majoor der Chineezen of Medan in 1911, lived in the mansion with his family until his death in 1921, and that the mansion and museum first opened to the public in June 2009. Its visit page says the entry fee includes a guided tour by the staff and that visitors can ask for an English- or Indonesian-speaking guide.
