Why go

Windsor Castle, in the town of Windsor in Berkshire, is one of the official residences of the King and was founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, according to Visit Windsor, the official tourist information site on windsor.gov.uk. That site presents the State Apartments, the ceremonial rooms the Royal Family uses for state visits and investitures, as part of a visit, and says St George's Chapel, where Queen Elizabeth II is buried, is included in a ticketed visit. It also says that, as a working palace, the castle can close at short notice, and refers visitors to the Royal Collection Trust's provisional closure dates. The Household Division's page says Changing the Guard at Windsor takes place inside the Castle precincts, so visitors must buy a Castle ticket to watch it. Windsor lies outside London: XTOUR lists the castle as a trip from London, not as part of the city.
