Istanbul combination tickets: choose the places first, then the bundle

Start with the places, not the bundle

A combination suits a visitor who already wants every place in it. The five places that appear in Istanbul's listed old-city bundles are run by three different bodies with three different sets of rules, and a bundle does not merge them: each admission keeps its own entrance, its own hours, its own closed day and its own age rule.[1][2] So the order of decisions is fixed. Decide which of the five you want to see and on which days, check each one's own rules below, and only then look at whether a bundle happens to cover exactly that set.

The five places and how each is entered

Hagia Sophia has functioned as a mosque since 2020, and since 15 January 2024 foreign visitors coming for cultural purposes use a separate, controlled entrance: the Ministry's press office describes a tunnel and ramp under the Bayezid II minaret on the south side leading visitors to the gallery floor, from which they see the prayer hall below, the Ottoman additions and the Byzantine mosaics of that level, before leaving by a ramp on the north-east side, with information available in 23 languages through a QR-code headset system.[1] The ground floor remains the worship space and is not part of the ticketed route. Every listing that includes Hagia Sophia repeats the dress rule: women in long, loose clothing covering arms and legs with a head covering, men with shoulders and knees covered, and refusal of entry otherwise.[6]

Topkapı Palace is run by Milli Saraylar, the presidential palaces directorate, which lists Tuesday as its closed day and a ticket office open 09:00 to 17:00 when checked on 20 September 2026; its own ticket structure is a combined ticket covering the palace, Hagia Irene and the Harem, with the Harem and Hagia Irene also sold separately, and children aged 0 to 6 enter free.[2] The listed bundles describe Topkapı as skip-the-line admission with an audio guide and an escort, and they do not name the Harem or Hagia Irene, so treat those sections as unknown rather than included.

Dolmabahçe Palace, also a Milli Saraylar site, closes on Mondays, opens its ticket office 09:00 to 17:00, and sells one ticket covering the Selamlık, the Harem and the Painting Museum, with children aged 0 to 6 free.[3] The bundles that include it all describe admission with access to the Harem section and a multilingual audio guide, so the Harem is named here, unlike at Topkapı.[7]

The Basilica Cistern, Yerebatan Sarnıcı, is run by İBB's Kültür A.Ş., which states that it is open every day from 09:00 to 22:00 and prices two sessions separately, 09:00 to 18:30 and an evening session from 19:30 to 22:00, with card or İstanbulkart payment only at the entrance.[4] The listed bundles describe the cistern entry as 09:00 to 18:00 with a multilingual audio guide that must be downloaded in advance from a link sent with the confirmation, and they note that last admission is one hour before closing.[8] A bundle voucher is a day-session ticket; the evening session is not what it buys.

Galata Tower is a Ministry of Culture and Tourism museum that listed itself as open daily with a day session from 08:30 to 18:30 and a separate night-museum session from 18:30 to 23:00 when checked, with under-18s required to visit with a parent.[5] The bundles that include the tower state that entrance is not permitted between 18:15 and 19:15. That is a restriction in the listings: the Ministry page lists the night session as starting at 18:30 and does not explain the window, so check the tower's own page for evening entry. The Galata and Dolmabahçe bundle's instruction is to go directly to the gate and queue for the elevator.[9] Skip-the-line at any of these places means the ticket queue; each listing says you still wait for security checks.

The seven bundles with their own pages, side by side

The table is drawn from the seven listings.[12][11][10][9][8][7][6] Three things in it decide most choices, and the Hagia Sophia and Basilica Cistern guides cover the further variants that appear only as options on those pages.

The first is the Topkapı escort. Both Topkapı bundles say a representative escorts you from the meeting point to the palace's skip-the-line entrance on your selected date and time, and the meeting point is a travel kiosk inside the Chimney Bistro on Soğukçeşme Sokak in Sultanahmet, with time slots shown from 09:30 into the afternoon.[10][6] The palace visit is therefore an appointment, and the meeting point is a café, not the palace gate; the other components in those bundles are used on your own within the validity period stated on the voucher.

The second is validity. The bundles without Topkapı describe the attractions as usable on the same day or on separate days within the voucher validity period, and the panel showed that period as a fixed end date rather than a number of days: 16 October 2026 for the Dolmabahçe bundles and 31 October 2026 for the Hagia Sophia, cistern and Galata bundle when checked on 20 September 2026.[8][7] That date is what your voucher will show, and it is the date by which every component must be used; it is neither a rolling number of days from first use nor a calendar-day pass.

The third is the refund state. Five of the seven bundles, all of them including Hagia Sophia, were non-refundable when checked.[12][10][8][7][6] The Galata Tower and Dolmabahçe bundle and the Basilica Cistern and Dolmabahçe bundle showed a full refund for cancellation at least 48 hours before the travel date in Europe/Istanbul time, with the note that extra cancellation or refund fees may apply and that later cancellations are non-refundable.[11][9] If flexibility matters, the two 48-hour bundles are the only listed ones that offer any.

One bundle, several pages

The same combination is offered on more than one Skygate page. The Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern and Topkapı bundle appears on its own combination page and on the Basilica Cistern, Hagia Sophia and Topkapı single-attraction pages; the four-attraction bundle appears on five pages; the Basilica Cistern and Dolmabahçe bundle on three; and the Galata and Dolmabahçe bundle on three.[10][14] What you are buying is the option, with its own validity, ages and cancellation record, and those were the same on whichever page it appeared. This matters when two pages seem to offer slightly different-sounding combinations; compare the option name and terms, not the page title.

A bundle is only as bookable as its scarcest part

When checked on 20 September 2026, each of the four bundles that include the Basilica Cistern, namely the Hagia Sophia plus cistern plus Galata bundle, the Hagia Sophia plus cistern plus Topkapı bundle, the Basilica Cistern plus Dolmabahçe bundle and the four-attraction bundle, showed no bookable dates at all across the 162-day calendar range, and the stand-alone Basilica Cistern admission-with-audio-guide option on Skygate's cistern page showed none either.[14][12][11][10][8] The bundles without the cistern showed some dates: 43 of 162 for Hagia Sophia plus Topkapı, and 23 of 162 for each of the two Dolmabahçe pairs.[9][7][6] None of this says anything about whether the cistern or any other place is open; the cistern's operator listed it open daily when checked.[4] It says that a bundle cannot be booked unless every component in it can be, so a bundle inherits the availability of its least available part. If the place you most want is the scarce one, a bundle does not help you get in; a ticket for that place alone, or the operator's own ticket office, is the route.

The same page-level caution applies to the Best of Istanbul Walking Tour. When checked, its page listed admission, a guide, lunch, drinks and insurance as inclusions and carried a dress-code note, but it had no booking panel and no option to select, so there was nothing to book.[13] Do not plan a day around it until the page shows an option with dates.

Children on a bundle

The free age is set per bundle, not per city, and the listings are explicit that the free age differs: under 6 on the two Topkapı bundles and the two Dolmabahçe pairs; under 8 at Hagia Sophia and under 6 at Dolmabahçe within the Hagia Sophia and Dolmabahçe bundle; and under 3 on the two bundles that pair the Basilica Cistern and Galata Tower with Hagia Sophia.[12][8][7][6] The Dolmabahçe listings state that children must be accompanied by an adult and may be asked for a passport or ID at the entrance for age verification, so carry the document.[11] Where a bundle's free age is lower than the operator's own free age, the bundle's rule is the one on your voucher; Milli Saraylar admits all children aged 0 to 6 free at its palaces on its own tickets.[3]

Do not double up

Two names cause repeated confusion. Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque is a different ticket from the Hagia Sophia History and Experience Museum (see the Hagia Sophia History and Experience Museum guide), and the Basilica Cistern is not the Theodosius Cistern (see the Theodosius Cistern guide). The display label is not the identity: what you are buying is the specific option, with its own validity, ages and cancellation terms, whichever page you open it from. A bundle naming one does not admit you to the other. Also check anything you already hold: if you have the Istanbul E-pass, which enters Topkapı and the Basilica Cistern on its guided tours, a bundle containing the same place would duplicate it. How to choose

Write down the places you want and the days you have. Strike out Topkapı for a Tuesday and Dolmabahçe for a Monday, following Milli Saraylar's closed days.[3][2] If Topkapı is on the list, decide whether an escorted appointment from a Sultanahmet café suits you. If Galata Tower is on the list, check the tower's own page for the session you want, because the bundles bar entry between 18:15 and 19:15. Then look for a bundle that matches the remaining set exactly, read its own validity date, its own free age and its own cancellation record, and if it shows no bookable dates, buy the components separately rather than waiting for the bundle to reappear.
