Malaysia SIM, eSIM, KLIA lounge and KLIA Ekspres

The short answer

XTOUR lists seven services that sit around a flight into or out of Malaysia. Four are the same Tune Talk 5G SIM card, collected at different airports; one is a Tune Talk 5G eSIM; one is a KLIA Ekspres train ticket between Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KL Sentral; and one is access to the Plaza Premium Lounge in KLIA Terminal 1 before a departing flight. None of them has a place page on XTOUR, because none is a place you visit for its own sake.

The order of decisions is simple: pick the SIM product for the airport you land at, or the eSIM if your phone supports it; decide whether you need the train into the city; and treat the lounge as a departure-day purchase.

Tune Talk SIM cards: choose by arrival airport

The four SIM products differ only in where you collect the card. Each offers the same three plan options on SkyGate: Malaysia 5G SIM Card - Travel LITE (40GB Data), Travel FAST (150GB Data) and Travel UNLIMITED (350GB Data). SkyGate describes the card as a 3-in-1 SIM (normal, micro and nano) and says it is compatible with all phone types.[1]

The data figures need a check. Tune Talk's own traveller-SIM page, read on 28 September 2026, shows 200GB and 500GB for its two larger plans, and SkyGate's eSIM options use those figures, while the physical-SIM option titles say 150GB and 350GB.[5] XTOUR does not know which allowance a SkyGate physical-SIM order carries, so read the option on SkyGate before paying.

These are the counters as Tune Talk lists them, re-read on 28 September 2026:

• Malaysia 5G SIM Card with KLIA Terminal 1 Pickup: LOT MTB-3-L08, Level 3, Main Terminal Building, with the kiosk in front of Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf; Tune Talk gives its hours as 24 hours daily.[5]
• Malaysia 5G SIM Card with KLIA Terminal 2 Pickup: L2-119A, Level 2, gateway@klia2, with the kiosk between Anta and Subway; 24 hours daily according to Tune Talk.[5]
• Malaysia 5G SIM Card with Kota Kinabalu Airport Pickup: LOT L1L01(C6), Level 1, Arrival Level Hall (Landside), next to the Orange convenience shop; 24 hours daily according to Tune Talk.[5]
• Malaysia 5G SIM Card with Penang Airport Pickup: Tune Talk Traveller Store, LOT L1LFB03B, Level 1, Arrival Level; Tune Talk gives 7am to 11pm daily, and SkyGate's Penang page gives the same hours.[4][5]

SkyGate's four pickup pages each say the Tune Talk store is past the immigration area, while Tune Talk's own address for the Kota Kinabalu shop reads Arrival Level Hall (Landside).[5][4][3][2][1] XTOUR has not verified which side of immigration each counter is on.

Collecting and registering the SIM

Tune Talk asks you to bring your order confirmation when you collect a physical SIM, and says registration is required, with a valid passport, at redemption. Tune Talk's page says the Malaysia Traveller SIM is open to anyone aged 12 or above with a valid passport or Malaysian NRIC.[5]

On how many cards one passport can register, the two sources disagree. SkyGate's pickup pages say one passport or Malaysian ID can register up to five SIM cards under Malaysian telecom regulations.[1] Tune Talk's page says non-Malaysian subscribers may register up to two.[5] XTOUR's reading is that a group buying several cards on foreign passports should plan on the lower figure.

Tune Talk 5G eSIM

The Malaysia Tune Talk 5G eSIM has five options on SkyGate: Travel LITE (40GB Data), Travel FAST (200GB Data), Travel UNLIMITED (500GB Data) + E-Roaming, and two data-only options marked for international travellers, Traveller eSIM Data Lite (20GB Data-Only) and Traveller eSIM Data Pro (40GB Data-Only). SkyGate says you complete a registration and then activate the eSIM, and asks you to check your device's eSIM compatibility before buying.[6] When XTOUR followed SkyGate's compatibility link on 28 September 2026, it redirected to Tune Talk's home page rather than to a device list, so confirm eSIM support in your phone's own settings or with its maker.

Tune Talk's page describes registration through the Tune Talk app: open Check Order Status, key in the mobile number, tap Activate, follow the registration steps, then scan the QR code in the confirmation email. The same page also carries the line "Purchase Your eSIM Exclusively at Airport Outlets".[5] XTOUR does not know how that line applies to an eSIM ordered through SkyGate; read the delivery instructions on your SkyGate voucher before you fly.

XTOUR does not currently list the Malaysia Airhub eSIM.

KLIA Ekspres Airport Train Ticket

The KLIA Ekspres Airport Train Ticket has two options on SkyGate, One Way and Round Trip. SkyGate describes a nonstop train between the airport and KL Sentral over 60 kilometres in 35 minutes, and a five-minute hop between KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2; it names the airport stations KLIA T1 and KLIA T2 and mentions boarding by QR code.[7]

That nonstop description does not hold for every date. The operator's home page, read on 28 September 2026, carries a combined-service notice for maintenance work covering 28 September to 1 October 2026, during which KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit trains depart every 20 minutes and stop at all stations.[8] The operator's schedule page showed the train service status as normal on the same day, with a link to a revised schedule.[9] SkyGate's page itself says departure times and frequency may vary and points to the operator's schedule page.[7]

On children, SkyGate's listing says children under 6 travel free without a seat, must be accompanied by a paying adult, and that each paying adult may buy at most three child tickets.[7] The operator's fares section says children below 6 travel free, with a maximum of three free child tickets per adult ticket, and prices a separate child fare for ages 6 to 15.[8]

Plaza Premium Lounge at KLIA Terminal 1

The Plaza Premium Lounge, KLIA Terminal 1 product has six options on SkyGate: 3, 6 or 12 hours in either the Plaza Premium Lounge or Plaza Premium First (VIP Lounge).[10] Plaza Premium's own page lists both lounges at International Departures, Contact Pier, KLIA Terminal 1, each open 24 hours daily.[11] SkyGate's page does not describe how the two lounges differ beyond their names, and XTOUR has not verified it.

According to SkyGate's listing, the price includes admission, water and soft drinks, coffee and tea, a meal and alcoholic drinks, while additional charges may apply for showers and certain alcoholic beverages. The same listing places the lounge in the restricted area for passengers who have cleared customs and passport control to depart, or transit passengers who have cleared transit security, and says an onward boarding pass is required.[10] It is therefore a departure product, not somewhere to wait after landing. Plaza Premium also runs a separate lounge at gateway@klia2 in Terminal 2, which this product does not cover.[11]

SkyGate's child policy says children under 2 are free, children aged 2 to 11 may not use massage or spa services if offered, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult.[10]

How to choose

XTOUR's reading, based on the listings:

• Landing at KLIA Terminal 1, KLIA Terminal 2, Kota Kinabalu or Penang: pick the SIM product named for that airport, because each is a pickup at one counter.
• Phone supports eSIM and you would rather not queue: the Tune Talk eSIM avoids a counter, but check the device and the delivery instructions first.
• Heading into Kuala Lumpur by rail: the KLIA Ekspres ticket, one way or round trip.
• Flying out of KLIA Terminal 1 with time to spare: the lounge, choosing the length of stay and the lounge by option.

Before you book

• Bring your SIM order confirmation and passport to the Tune Talk counter.[5]
• Check the SIM option's data allowance on SkyGate, since the physical-SIM titles and Tune Talk's page differ.[5]
• Confirm eSIM support on your phone before buying the eSIM, as SkyGate asks.[6]
• Check the KLIA Ekspres operator's site for service notices on your travel date.[8]
• Keep your onward boarding pass for the lounge.[10]
