Osaka Amazing Pass, e-Pass and city cards compared

Six Osaka-area passes on SkyGate answer different questions: one bundles attractions with trains and buses, one covers attractions only, one covers city transit only, and two Keihan and Hankyu passes reach Kyoto and Kobe. This guide separates them by what each covers, how it is used and where SkyGate and the operators differ.

Quick answer

Choose by what you need to pay for. According to the operator, the Osaka Amazing Pass bundles about 40 attractions with trains and buses, while the Osaka e-Pass operator says its pass is for attraction entry and that transport fares are not included. The Osaka Metro and Osaka City Bus Pass is transit only, and the Kyoto-Osaka Sightseeing Pass is a Keihan Railway pass. XTOUR has not established which Amazing Pass version SkyGate sells.

The short answer

These six SkyGate products are entitlements, not itineraries: each is a right to enter or ride, and none of them means you will visit any particular place. The first question is what you actually want to pay for. A pass that covers attractions and transport is the Osaka Amazing Pass, a pass that covers only attractions is the Osaka e-Pass, a pass that covers only city transit is the Osaka Metro and Osaka City Bus Pass, and a pass that reaches Kyoto by rail is the Kyoto-Osaka Sightseeing Pass.

Osaka Amazing Pass: transport and attractions in one

The operator, Surutto Kansai, describes the pass as unlimited rides on all Osaka Metro and Osaka City Bus routes (some routes are excluded), the New Tram, and Hankyu, Hanshin, Keihan, Kintetsu and Nankai trains mainly running in Osaka City, plus about 40 sightseeing spots. It sells a one-day and a two-consecutive-day pass.[8] SkyGate's listing says the pass includes a guidebook and special offers at selected shops, and names Tennoji Zoo, Osaka Castle Museum, Tsutenkaku Tower, Tombori River Cruise, Museum of Housing and Living and Legoland among the attractions.[2] Neither page is a full attraction list that XTOUR has checked, so confirm a venue you care about before you buy.

The operator's usage rules matter more than the attraction count. It says the digital ticket counts a day as 3am to 2:59am the next day, that you must press "Start Using" after 3am on the day of use, and that a ticket started between midnight and 2:59am cannot be used after 3am.[9] It says attractions accept the ticket between opening and last admission, and that transport is valid from the first to the last train.[8] On trains you scan a QR code at a gate that reads QR codes.[9]

One caveat sits over all the Amazing Pass products. The Osaka Amazing Pass site says sales on that site are closed and points to a new version sold on an external site.[7] SkyGate's option text does not say which version it sells, and XTOUR has not reconciled the two. SkyGate shows a voucher validity date of 31 March 2027 for its standalone passes, which matches the date by which Surutto Kansai says a ticket must be activated, but XTOUR treats that as a coincidence of dates and not as proof.[8][2]

Three ways to buy the Amazing Pass

Osaka Amazing Pass with Optional Kansai Airport Transfer is the widest of the three listings. SkyGate lists four options: the Osaka Amazing Pass for 1 Day, the pass for 2 Days, and two one-day combos that add a one-way Osaka Rapi:t, either Kansai Airport to Namba Station or Namba Station to Kansai Airport.[2] Choose it if you want the pass alone, or a one-day pass with one airport leg.

Combo: Osaka Amazing Pass + Kansai Airport Transfer (Osaka Rapi:t) Ticket has no standalone pass. Its four options each pair a 1-day or 2-day pass with a one-way Rapi:t in one of the two directions. The two one-day options carry the same titles as the combos in the listing above; the two-day combos appear only here.[2] SkyGate describes the Rapi:t as a limited express with reserved seating, and Nankai, the railway, calls Rapi:t an airport express connecting Namba and Kansai International Airport.[14][1] SkyGate's page does not say where the pass and the Rapi:t ticket are exchanged or scanned. The voucher validity date SkyGate shows for these combo options is 28 October 2026, earlier than for the standalone passes, so check the date shown at checkout.[1]

Combo: Osaka Amazing Pass + Hankyu Pass adds the Hankyu One-Day Pass to a 1-day or 2-day Amazing Pass. SkyGate describes the Hankyu pass as covering the Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and Takarazuka lines except the Kobe Kosoku line, and Hankyu's own page says the digital pass is valid on all Hankyu lines except the Kobe Kosoku Line.[13][3] XTOUR's reading is that this combo is aimed at a trip that leaves Osaka city for Kyoto or Kobe on one day, because the Amazing Pass, by the operator's description, covers Hankyu trains mainly running in Osaka City.[8] Hankyu says one person can travel on any day within the validity period, and that a digital ticket can be refunded only before you press "Start Usage".[13] SkyGate's option data gives an adult minimum age of 12 for this combo and a voucher validity date of 27 December 2026.[3]

Osaka e-Pass: attractions only

The Osaka e-Pass is the pass to pick when you will pay for transport separately. The e-Pass site says fares for trains and buses are not included, that you enter more than 25 facilities free, once each, by showing a QR code at the facility counter, and that there is no separate child price. The same site also lists "more than 20 facilities" in a comparison table, and SkyGate's page has the same 25 versus 20 discrepancy, so treat any single count as unconfirmed.[4][10]

The e-Pass site also states that you must enter the next facility more than 30 minutes after leaving the previous one, and that a two-day pass still admits you to each facility once.[10] SkyGate's four options are the e-Pass for 1 Day or 2 Days, and the same two lengths combined with the Osaka Metro and Osaka City Bus Pass. Redemption in SkyGate's option text is by mobile voucher at each attraction entrance. SkyGate lists a minimum age of 3 on the standalone e-Pass options and 12 on the combos, so the combo is the one to check first for a family.[4]

Osaka Metro and Osaka City Bus Pass: transit only

XTOUR's reading is that this pass suits a traveller who will only move around Osaka city. Osaka Metro describes its one-day Enjoy Eco Card as unlimited rides on all Osaka Metro lines (excluding Yumeshima Station) and Osaka City Bus lines (excluding some routes), with discounts at about 20 tourist facilities in Osaka City on the day of use.[11] SkyGate's options are named differently, and XTOUR has not established that they are the same card as the Enjoy Eco Card. SkyGate offers a 1-Day pass, a 2-Day pass, and the two e-Pass combos, whose text says both passes can be used on the same day or on separate days within the voucher validity period. For the Metro and Bus part of the combos, SkyGate's text only refers to a link, so where to pick it up is not confirmed here.[5]

Kyoto-Osaka Sightseeing Pass: a Keihan rail pass

The Kyoto-Osaka Sightseeing Pass is a railway pass, not an attraction pass. SkyGate describes unlimited travel on the Keihan Railway (except the Otsu Line) and the Iwashimizu-Hachimangu-Sando Cable Car. Its four digital options are the Kyoto-Osaka 1-Day Pass, a Kyoto Sightseeing 1-Day Pass, a 1-Day Pass plus a Hirakata Park ticket, and a 1-Day Pass for the Greater Kurama and Kibune area, which SkyGate says adds the Eizan Electric Railway lines. SkyGate's option description for the third option adds "admission to Hirakata Park" to the rail pass; the other three options do not mention it. Fushimi-Inari Taisha, Kiyomizu-dera and Osaka Castle appear in SkyGate's description as places you can reach, not as entries the pass includes.[6]

Keihan's page describes the one-day version as starting after 3am on the day of use and a 24-hour version that can start at a time of your choice, and says digital tickets are scanned at a QR-enabled ticket gate.[12] SkyGate's option text differs: it says to present the mobile voucher and the passports of all travellers at a designated Keihan station counter to receive tickets, and it says the pass is valid for non-Japanese citizens only.[6] XTOUR has not reconciled these two descriptions, and SkyGate's options do not say which of Keihan's one-day or 24-hour versions each one is.

How to choose

  • Attractions and trains in Osaka city: in XTOUR's reading, the Amazing Pass, through the widest listing, Osaka Amazing Pass with Optional Kansai Airport Transfer.
  • Airport leg too: in XTOUR's reading, the Rapi:t combo listing if you want a two-day pass with a leg, or the widest listing for a one-day pass with one leg.
  • Leaving Osaka for Kyoto or Kobe by Hankyu: Combo: Osaka Amazing Pass + Hankyu Pass.
  • Attractions only, transport paid separately: in XTOUR's reading, the Osaka e-Pass.
  • Transit only inside Osaka city: Osaka Metro and Osaka City Bus Pass.
  • Rail between Osaka and Kyoto along the Keihan line: Kyoto-Osaka Sightseeing Pass.

Before you book

  • The Osaka Amazing Pass operator says a digital ticket must be started after 3am on the day of use.[9]
  • The Osaka e-Pass operator says each facility admits you once and that cancellations after purchase are not permitted; SkyGate's option text for the e-Pass calls it non-refundable too, so read the cancellation terms shown at checkout.[4][10]
  • The Keihan pass is limited to non-Japanese citizens according to SkyGate's option text.[6]
  • Check the voucher validity date SkyGate shows for your chosen option, because the six listings show different dates.[2][3][6][1]
