Acropolis Museum
Μουσείο Ακρόπολης
The Acropolis Museum is the museum of the finds from the Athenian Acropolis and its slopes, on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street on the south side of the Acropolis in Athens.
Why go
The Acropolis Museum says it is a thematic museum whose collections include the findings of only one archaeological site, the Athenian Acropolis, shown on four levels: finds from the slopes on the ground floor, the history of the summit on the first floor, the Parthenon's sculptural decoration on the third floor, and the excavated ruins of an ancient neighbourhood beneath the building. Its history page says this building was constructed on the south side of the Acropolis, 300 metres from its monuments, and opened on 20 June 2009; the earlier museum on the rock operated until 2007. The museum's FAQ says its ticket is independent of the ticket to the Acropolis and the associated archaeological sites, that general admission is sold at the museum's ticket desk or through e-ticketing, and that reduced and free tickets are issued only at the desk to visitors who present eligibility documents. This record is the museum, not the archaeological site of the Acropolis.
