Why go
The Ancient Theatre of Taormina is one of the sites of the Parco Archeologico Naxos Taormina, whose page for it says the original theatre dates from the 3rd century BC and that what is visible today belongs to a Roman rebuilding of the first half of the 2nd century AD, under Trajan or Hadrian. The same page says the present reconstruction of the stage front comes from a 19th-century restoration. The park's site sends ticket buyers to Aditus, which presents itself as the official ticket office, and Aditus's page for the theatre says luggage is not allowed in the theatre area. This record is the theatre, not the town of Taormina or the park's other sites.
