Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park

Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is a national park in East Java that spans Malang, Pasuruan, Probolinggo and Lumajang regencies and contains Mount Bromo and Semeru.

Why go

The park is managed by the Balai Besar Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru, whose pages say it lies in Malang, Pasuruan, Probolinggo and Lumajang regencies and rises from about 750 m to 3,676 m at Semeru. Its profile page says the park was formed from earlier reserves, among them the Tengger sand sea nature reserve designated in 1919 and the Ranu Kumbolo nature reserve designated in 1936. In an article of 16 October 2024 the authority says that since 1 December 2019 entry to the Mount Bromo area must be booked online through the park's official site, with no on-the-spot tickets, and that paid bookings cannot be rescheduled or refunded. The park's news page announces closures, such as the whole-park closure for Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr from 28 March to 1 April 2025. This record is the protected area; Mount Bromo and Semeru are separate records, and the map point is the middle of the park boundary, not an entrance.
