Why go

Indonesia's volcano-monitoring portal MAGMA lists Bromo in Probolinggo Regency, East Java, at 2,329 m and publishes its current activity level. In an article of 16 October 2024, the national park authority, Balai Besar Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru, says that since 1 December 2019 it has applied a daily visitor quota to the Mount Bromo area, that entry tickets must be booked online through the park's official site and are not sold on the spot, and that paid bookings cannot be rescheduled or refunded. The park's news page also announces closures, such as the whole-park closure for Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr from 28 March to 1 April 2025. This record is the volcano; the national park and Semeru are separate records, and the map point is the crater area, which stands for the volcano and is not a viewpoint or a gate.
