Museu Calouste Gulbenkian

The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum shows the art collection assembled by Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian, from ancient Egypt to the 20th century, in the Gulbenkian Foundation's 1969 building in Lisbon.

Why go

The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum is run by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. Its collection page says the collection holds about six thousand works acquired by Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian, from ancient Egypt to the 20th century, and that about a thousand are on show along a route that begins in ancient Egypt, passes through the Islamic world, China and Japan and ends in Europe. The museum's building page says the foundation's headquarters and museum building, by the architects Ruy Jervis d'Athouguia, Pedro Cid and Alberto Pessoa, opened in 1969, is set in a garden designed by Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles and António Viana Barreto, and was classified a National Monument in 2010. The foundation's tickets page sells a Museum ticket, which includes free entry to the CAM Collection, separately from tickets for the Centro de Arte Moderna (CAM), and says tickets are sold online or at its ticket offices. The CAM and the Gulbenkian Garden are separate places, not part of this record.
