Why go

Calton Hill is a hill in the centre of Edinburgh whose public parkland the City of Edinburgh Council, in a 2018 committee report adopting its management plan, called a public park of national significance and described as, among other things, a landmark and a viewing point. The same report describes historic buildings and structures on the hill, including the City Observatory complex, then being restored and redeveloped with the Collective gallery. The council lists the Calton Hill Conservation Trust as the hill's Friends group. This record is the hill, with its point at the summit marked in OpenStreetMap; it is not any single monument on it and not the Calton Hill in Derbyshire.
