Why go
St Giles' Cathedral on Edinburgh's High Street is the High Kirk of Edinburgh, a Church of Scotland church with an active congregation; its site says it was founded in 1124 and has served as a place of worship for over 900 years. The cathedral's visitor page says general admission tickets apply to visitors aged 16 or over who are not resident in Scotland, include the cathedral floor, the Thistle Chapel and guided tours, and can be booked in advance for fast-track entry. Residents of Scotland can apply online for a Resident Pass, which is activated at the cathedral on showing proof of address, and groups of seven or more adults book as a group. Its home page lists Sunday services. This record is the church building and its congregation's visitor offer, not the Royal Mile around it.
