Why go
Christ Church Cathedral has a dual role: its About page says that in 1546 the priory church became both the cathedral for the newly formed Diocese of Oxford and the chapel of the new college of Christ Church, and that the site has been a place of worship for more than a thousand years. The cathedral's visiting page calls it a working building where services are held daily, open for private prayer via the Tom Gate entrance, and describes the Shrine of St Frideswide and stained glass including the Becket Window and windows by Edward Burne-Jones; the cathedral's main page says Choral Evensong is open to the public. Christ Church's tickets page says sightseeing visits are by a self-guided multimedia tour, which it says to book online to guarantee entry, or by guided tour, and that full or partial closures happen when areas are in use for services or private events. The same page says suitcases and bags larger than 40 x 30 x 20 cm are not allowed on site. This record is the cathedral, not the college as a whole and not the cathedral school.
