Why go

Oxford Botanic Garden is run by the University of Oxford as part of Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum, within the University's Gardens, Libraries and Museums group; the operator says it was established in 1621 and points to its origins as a physic garden. Its guide describes the Walled Garden, the oldest part, with formal taxonomic family beds; the Lower Garden, adjacent to Christ Church Meadow and bordered by the River Cherwell; and seven display glasshouses. The operator's Harcourt Arboretum, part of Oxford Botanic Garden since 1963 by its own account, is not covered by this record, which is the garden on Rose Lane only. The garden's visit page links to ticket purchase and asks groups of more than 15 people to book ahead, and its guide says dogs are not permitted except assistance dogs.
