Clifford's Tower
Clifford's Tower is the keep of York Castle on its raised mound on Tower Street in York, cared for by English Heritage.
Why go
Clifford's Tower is the keep of York Castle, standing on a raised earthwork on Tower Street and run by English Heritage. English Heritage's history page says the mound once carried a timber keep built by William the Conqueror, which burnt down during the massacre of the Jews in 1190, and that the tower has looked over the city since 1245. Its visit page says displays inside cover the tower's history and that a timber roof platform gives views over the city. This record is the keep only, not York Castle as a whole (Wikidata Q80637) and not the York Castle Museum.
