Yorkshire Museum

The Yorkshire Museum is a museum of archaeology and science in York's Museum Gardens, run by York Museums Trust.

Why go

The Yorkshire Museum stands in the Museum Gardens off Museum Street in York and is run by York Museums Trust, a registered charity. Its history page says it opened in 1830 to house the Yorkshire Philosophical Society's collections, was built in the grounds of St Mary's Abbey over remains of abbey buildings that can still be seen in the basement, and that its collections keep to its founders' interests, archaeology and science, with the archaeology relating largely to York and North Yorkshire. The museum's visitor information page sends visitors to book tickets, says it cannot store luggage and asks that suitcases and large backpacks are not brought in, and says bags may be searched on arrival. Wikidata keeps the museum (Q2086562) apart from its building (Q67601241); this record is the museum.
