Why go

The Córdoba Synagogue is a small Mudéjar building in the Judería, beside the old wall of the Islamic medina, which the Junta de Andalucía presents as one of its Enclaves Culturales. The Junta's page dates it to 1314-1315 from its foundation inscription, found in 1884, and describes a square prayer hall of no more than 40 square metres reached through a small courtyard and vestibule, with carved plasterwork, Hebrew inscriptions mainly from the Book of Psalms, and a women's gallery. It says the building was used as a synagogue until the expulsion of the Jews in 1492, was rediscovered during works in 1876 and declared a National Monument in 1885. Córdoba's tourism site adds that it later served as a hospital, as the hermitage of San Crispín and as a nursery school. The Junta's page says animals are not allowed in, except assistance dogs.
