Galata Kulesi
A fourteenth-century Genoese-built stone tower in Bereketzade, Beyoğlu, restored in 2020 and run today as a Ministry of Culture and Tourism museum with a panoramic balcony on its top floor.

Built by the Genoese in the mid-fourteenth century as part of the Galata walls, the tower later served as an Ottoman dungeon and fire-watch tower. A 2020 restoration by the Directorate General of Foundations removed later concrete additions and a cafeteria, and the tower reopened with a museum function; it is listed and ticketed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on muze.gov.tr as Galata Kulesi Müzesi. The building has 11 floors including basement, ground and mezzanine, and stands 62.59 m to the roof tip. A two-cabin lift runs from the ground floor to the 6th floor, with an eight-screen animation of 16th-century Istanbul playing inside the cabins. From there: the 8th (top) floor is the panoramic viewing balcony, reached by stairs; the 7th floor holds a 1/2500 model of Istanbul with tablets and five observation binoculars; the 6th floor has a model of a 9th-century cargo boat and a children's video game, 'Bul Istanbul'; the 5th and 4th floors hold museum displays including the Golden Horn chain; the 3rd floor is for temporary exhibitions; the 2nd floor has an animation of Hezârfen Ahmed Çelebi's flight; and the 1st floor is the museum shop. On the way out, the descent from the 4th floor uses tunnel stairs built into the tower's walls, exiting through a separated part of the entrance steps. Day-ticket and night-museum entry are separate ticket windows.
The entrance door sits above ground level on the tower's south axis and is reached by marble steps on both sides; no separate entrance coordinate is needed at this scale, since the Ministry's own map point and OpenStreetMap's tower-way centroid agree to 7 m. Exactly where the ticket queue forms in the square, and whether a step-free alternative to the entrance steps exists, are not published.
Open year-round with the same daily and night-museum hours in every season, according to the Ministry (read 22 September 2026). Visiting near sunset for the balcony view or in the evening for the separately ticketed night-museum session are a matter of preference; the operator does not publish seasonal visiting guidance.
YEAR_ROUND. The Ministry's own pages state the night-museum session runs every day of the year ('Her gün açık'), not on a seasonal window, so no separate seasonal operating period is recorded. Re-check if the operator later publishes a seasonal night-museum schedule.
Under-18s must visit accompanied by a parent: 'ÖNEMLİ NOT: 18 yaş altı çocukların ebeveynleri ile ziyaret etmeleri zorunludur' (Ministry). No unaccompanied-minors policy beyond this is published.
An 'Elevator' facility badge is listed, but it only covers ground floor to the 6th floor; a steel staircase runs from the 6th to the 8th-floor balcony, and the descent from the 4th floor uses tunnel stairs built into the walls. Treat the visit as not step-free: expect stairs at the entrance, at the top and on the way out. Toilets and baby-care facilities are not listed on either operator page.
