Glasgow Cathedral
Glasgow Cathedral is the medieval cathedral on Castle Street in Glasgow's Cathedral Precinct, a Historic Environment Scotland site and home to a Church of Scotland congregation.
Why go
Glasgow Cathedral, which its congregation also calls St Mungo's or High, is a Historic Environment Scotland site and home to a congregation that describes itself as a living, active Parish Church of Scotland congregation. Historic Environment Scotland says the building came through the Reformation almost entirely intact, that its Lower Church is a 13th-century crypt built to house the tomb of St Mungo, and that the pulpitum screen dates from the early 1400s. Its page lists cathedral entry as free with donations welcome, lets visitors choose an entry slot and pre-buy an audio guide, and says opening may vary because of private services and events. The congregation's site says attending a service is free. This record is the cathedral building, not Cathedral Square or the precinct listing.
