Gveleti Waterfall

გველეთის დიდი ჩანჩქერი · Big Gveleti Waterfall

The larger of two waterfalls above Gveleti village near the Dariali gorge, a thirty-metre fall reached on foot after a short drive north from Stepantsminda.

Why go

Gveleti is really a pair: a small fall and a large one roughly 750 metres apart, and the large one drops about thirty metres, spreading to some four metres wide at its base. A paved road reaches the village; from there the walk follows a service track before narrowing to a path that crosses streams and runs beneath cliffs. It fits easily into a Stepantsminda day alongside the Dariali gorge. GNTA singles out August to October, when sweetbrier, barberry and sea buckthorn are at their most colourful along the path.
