Why go
This is an interpretation museum about Hagia Sophia, not the monument itself. It occupies the Defter-i Hakani building at At Meydanı Sokak No:10, Fatih — about 440 m south-west of Hagia Sophia, across Sultanahmet Square — and is easily confused with its next-door neighbour at No:12, the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum. Across 13 halls and roughly 3,200 m² of closed exhibition space, the Ministry describes an audiovisual and auditory presentation, in 23 languages, of the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, arranged in four thematic sections — Church, Mosque, Museum, and Mosque again — displaying a large part of the movable Hagia Sophia collection, much of it shown for the first time. A Byzantine-era cistern is visible through windows on the ground floor. The museum is a Ministry site (listed on muze.gov.tr) run day to day with DEM Museums as the on-site ticketing and visitor-experience partner, the same partner that runs the Hagia Sophia mosque's separate visiting area; a combined ticket covering both venues is sold alongside this museum's own ticket, and Müzekart is not valid here.

Müzekart is not valid here. The building sits on Sultanahmet Square immediately next to the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum at No:12 — the two are easy to swap when giving directions.

DEM's combined visitor-rules page, read today, states children under 8 are admitted with a parent who is responsible for the child following the rules of the site — this is the most current operative statement found, though it does not explicitly distinguish Turkish and foreign children the way the Ministry's own museum page and tariff directive do (the museum page exempts Turkish citizens aged 8 and under from the fee; a separate Ministry directive's foreign-child exemption does not clearly list this museum). The same visitor-rules page warns that the museum uses bright lights, loud noise, fast-moving imagery and smoke-machine effects, and recommends visitors sensitive to these avoid it. Stairs/lift arrangement, stroller routing and wheelchair access are not published by any source read; no accessibility claim can be made.
