Holy Trinity Monastery, Meteora

Μονή Αγίας Τριάδος · Ιερά Μονή Αγίας Τριάδος

The Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada) is a working Orthodox monastery on a large rock of Meteora, northwest of St Stephen's, in the Municipality of Meteora, Thessaly.

Why go

The Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity stands on a large rock northwest of the St Stephen monastery, according to the Holy Metropolis of Stagoi and Meteora, which dates its foundation to the mid-14th century and notes that a 1362 decree of the ruler Symeon Uroš Palaiologos already names it. The same page describes the katholikon of the Holy Trinity as a domed cross-in-square church built in several phases, with the sanctuary and nave probably of the 14th century. Visit Greece says it has operated as an organised monastic community since 1362 and has a folklore museum with antique textiles and traditional utensils. No visiting page of the monastery itself was found; the Municipality of Meteora lists a winter and a summer timetable and a weekly closing day for this monastery, so check before going. This record is the Meteora monastery, not any other Holy Trinity monastery in Greece.
