Why go
The Klein Matterhorn is a peak in the mountains above Zermatt; this record is the peak, not the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise station, its cableways or the glacier ski area, and not the Matterhorn. Zermatt Bergbahnen, which runs the cableways, gives the peak as 3883 metres and says its viewing platform looks out over 38 four-thousand-metre peaks and 14 glaciers in three countries. The operator describes a Glacier Palace about 15 metres below ground between the Klein Matterhorn and the Breithorn, a cinema lounge, a restaurant and a shop at the top. It also describes the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing, a cableway link between Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia in Italy. The peak is in the municipality of Zermatt but outside the village, which XTOUR treats as its travel base.
