The National Elephant Conservation Centre at Kuala Gandah, near Lanchang in Pahang, is run by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN). Tourism Pahang says it was set up in 1989 to help relocate displaced elephants to large natural areas such as Taman Negara. PERHILITAN says there is no entrance fee, though visitors may donate to its elephant trust fund, and that visitors park and then register at the registration building. Its programme includes an elephant observation area, adult elephants bathing with mahouts when river levels and weather allow, and time with baby elephants when their health allows. PERHILITAN warns that other websites claiming to represent the centre are not connected with it.
PERHILITAN says the drive from Kuala Lumpur takes about two hours on the East Coast Expressway, leaving at the Lanchang exit. Park in the car park and register at the registration building.
