Linderhof Palace

Schloss Linderhof

Linderhof Palace is the palace King Ludwig II of Bavaria built in the municipality of Ettal in Upper Bavaria, set in a park with buildings such as the Moorish Kiosk and the Moroccan House.

Why go

Linderhof Palace grew out of the former forester's lodge of Ludwig II's father, Maximilian II, which the king had rebuilt from 1869; the Bayerische Schlösserverwaltung's German-language history page says it is the only larger palace Ludwig II lived to see completed. The operator's park page lists the buildings in the palace park, among them the Moroccan House, the Temple of Venus, the Moorish Kiosk and Hunding's Hut, and the operator's site presents the Venus Grotto in its own section. Its home page says the palace can be visited only on a guided tour, with group reservations available from 15 people. The same site says Linderhof has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing of Ludwig II's palaces since 2025, together with Neuschwanstein, the King's House on the Schachen and Herrenchiemsee.
