Why go

Panorama 1453 opened in 2009 and is run by Kültür A.Ş., the cultural company of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. It stands inside Topkapı Kültür Parkı, close to the Topkapı gate in the city's Byzantine land walls, where the assault of 1453 took place. "Topkapı" here is the gate and neighbourhood, not Topkapı Palace, which is a different museum in Sultanahmet. Visitors first pass an exhibition of miniatures, engravings and pictures on the founding of Istanbul, the siege and the life of Mehmed II, then walk down a short dark corridor onto a raised platform inside a painted dome 38 m across. According to the operator the painting covers 2,350 m², with a 650 m² three-dimensional foreground of replica cannon, gun carriages and powder barrels, some 10,000 painted figures and sound effects. The museum calls itself the world's first fully panoramic museum, which is the operator's own claim. According to the operator, it is open every day except Monday, 08:30 to 16:30 (read 22 September 2026).

Getting there

The museum is inside Topkapı Kültür Parkı beside the Topkapı section of the land walls, in Zeytinburnu (address: Merkez Efendi Mahallesi, Topkapı Kültür Park İçi Yolu, 34015). The operator does not publish the position of the entrance or ticket office, so use the museum itself as your destination. According to the operator, the entrances take only bank cards and İstanbulkart, not cash.

Best time to visit

The operator's hours end at 16:30, so plan for morning or early afternoon, and remember Monday closing.

Through the year

The museum is indoors and the operator publishes one weekly schedule with no seasonal change (read 22 September 2026). The surrounding park is outdoors, so summer heat and winter rain affect the walk between the road and the entrance, but the operator says nothing on this.

Accessibility

The operator says the panorama platform is not suitable for strollers and asks visitors to leave prams at the museum's entrance section; it does not say how they are stored, so a baby is best carried. The operator publishes nothing on wheelchair access, stairs or lifts to the platform, toilets or baby-changing.
