Porta Praetoria (Regensburg)
Porta praetoria
The Porta Praetoria is the surviving remains of the north gate of Castra Regina, the Roman legionary fortress at Regensburg, preserved in the walls of the bishop's court near the cathedral.
Why go
This record is the remains of the gate, not the Roman fortress as a whole. Regensburg's tourism board says the core of the medieval city lies within the walls of Castra Regina, the legionary camp of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, and that the relics of its north gate are preserved as prominent fixtures in the walls of the bishop's court near St. Peter's Cathedral. OpenStreetMap gives the gate's address as the street Unter den Schwibbögen.
