Keraton Ratu Boko · Kawasan Candi Ratu Boko
Ratu Boko is the hilltop archaeological site of an ancient palace complex south of Prambanan, in Bokoharjo village, Sleman Regency, managed for visitors by InJourney Destination Management.
Why go
InJourney Destination Management, the state-owned company that has managed Ratu Boko since 1994 according to its own history, says the site is not a temple but the remains of an ancient palace complex believed to date from the eighth century and the Ancient Mataram period. Its pages describe a two-layered main gate, a hall and paseban likely used for meetings or ceremonies, a complex of pools and enclosed rooms, and two small caves believed to have been used for meditation, on a hill it puts at about 196 metres above sea level and about 3 km south of Prambanan. InJourney's Ratu Boko page links to online ticket purchase and lists sunset visits among its experiences. This record is the archaeological site as a whole, not a ticketed sunset product.
