Why go

Museum Benteng Vredeburg Yogyakarta is managed by the Indonesian Heritage Agency (IHA), a public service agency for museums and heritage under the national education and culture ministry, according to the museum's own profile page. The profile says its exhibits tell the history of the national struggle from the time of Diponegoro to the New Order and that its collection includes more than 7,000 objects, among them items used by Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta. The museum's history page says building of the garrison fort began in December 1765 at the request of the Dutch East India Company (VOC), that the VOC named it Rustenburg when it inaugurated the fort, and that Daendels renamed it Vredeburg, 'fort of peace'. This record is the museum, not the fort as a building, although the two occupy the same site. The site's 'Beli Tiket' (buy ticket) page embeds a booking widget from Goers, a third-party ticketing platform; check the museum's own site for current opening.
