Why go

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden lies in Shinjuku and Shibuya wards in central Tokyo. According to Wikipedia it was a residence of the Naito family in the Edo period, later became a garden under the Imperial Household Agency, and is now a national garden under the Ministry of the Environment, which publishes its visitor information at env.go.jp. OpenStreetMap records a 1892 start date and tags the garden as fee-charging. The ministry's site gives the address as Naito-machō 11, Shinjuku, and refers visitors to its access page for routes and gates. Opening hours and closing days vary by season, so check the ministry's pages before you travel.
