Tomb of Emperor Minh Mạng

Lăng Minh Mạng · Hiếu Lăng

The Tomb of Emperor Minh Mạng (Lăng Minh Mạng, also Hiếu Lăng) is the tomb complex of the Nguyễn emperor Minh Mạng, one of the royal tombs west of the Huế Citadel; Vietnam's national tourism authority dates its completion to 1843.

Why go

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism says the Nguyễn kings designed their own tombs and that Minh Mạng, who continued the work of his father Gia Long, the first Nguyễn king, has a large and orderly tomb completed in 1843, with lotus ponds and pine-covered hills. On its page on the Huế monuments, World Heritage since 1993, Vietnam's Department of Cultural Heritage places the Nguyễn royal tombs west of the citadel on both banks of the Perfume River. This record is the tomb complex, not the emperor, and it is not part of the Imperial City despite what Wikidata states. XTOUR lists it as a place reached from Huế, not as a place in the city centre; tickets, opening and the managing body were not read, because the heritage centre's site did not answer.
