Trajan's Market – Museum of the Imperial Fora
Mercati di Traiano Museo dei Fori Imperiali · Museo dei Fori Imperiali
Trajan's Market - Museum of the Imperial Fora is a civic museum of Rome set inside the Roman brick complex known as Trajan's Market, beside the Imperial Fora.
Why go
This record is the museum, which occupies the ancient complex known as Trajan's Market; it is not the Imperial Fora or Trajan's Forum outside it. The museum's own presentation page describes the Markets as an archaeological complex that served in turn as an administrative centre of the Imperial Fora, a noble residence, a military fortress, a convent and a barracks, and says its display on the Imperial Fora treats the Markets as buildings that administered Trajan's Forum rather than as a 'shopping centre'. The museum is one of Rome's civic museums (Sistema Musei di Roma Capitale). Its ticket page says tickets can be bought online in advance or at the museum's ticket office, that individual visitors can book only by buying the ticket online in advance, and that groups of 11 to 25 people enter only with a booking made through the 060608 call centre. The same page asks visitors always to check the museum's notices page before planning a visit.
