Wahat Al Karama is a memorial in Abu Dhabi to the UAE's fallen, opposite the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
Why go
Wahat Al Karama, 'Oasis of Dignity', is a memorial in Abu Dhabi opposite the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque that honours Emiratis who gave their lives in service of their country; Visit Abu Dhabi says it commemorates soldiers, police, diplomats and civilians since 1971 and was inaugurated on Commemoration Day in 2016. Its centrepiece, by the British artist Idris Khan, is a group of 31 leaning tablets clad in aluminium, and beyond the Memorial Plaza the Pavilion of Honour carries the names of the fallen on panels cast from metal reclaimed from the UAE Armed Forces' vehicles. Visit Abu Dhabi lists a visitor centre and tour booking at the site. This record is the memorial, not the mosque opposite and not the Founder's Memorial. The memorial's own website did not answer this session, so visiting rules are not given here.
