Abudelauri Lakes

აბუდელაურის ტბები · Abudelauri Blue, Green and White Lakes

Three small glacial lakes — white, blue and green — in the Abudelauri valley of Khevsureti beneath the Chaukhi massif, reached on foot from Roshka where the paved road ends.

Why go

The colours have physical causes: carbonates give the upper lake its milky white, while glacial sediment in the lower two reflects light as blue and green. From Roshka a seven-kilometre trail, walked or ridden, reaches the blue and green lakes, which lie close together; the white lake is another kilometre and a half over rocks and boulders, right under the Chiukhi glacier. GNTA recommends June and July — snow lies earlier in the year and water is low by August. The lakes are also the far end of the two-day crossing from Juta over Chaukhi Pass.

Getting there

Roshka is where the paved road ends; the lakes are reached by a seven-kilometre trail on foot or horseback
