متحف العين

Al Ain Museum is a museum of the history and archaeology of Al Ain, in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, established in 1969 beside the Sultan Fort.

Why go

Al Ain Museum (Wikidata: Al Ain National Museum) was established in 1969 under the leadership of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, according to Visit Abu Dhabi, which places it on Mathaf Street next to the Sultan Fort, the eastern fort. The same page says the fort once stood at the centre of the old village of Al Ain, which took its other name, Haret Al Hosn, from it. Visit Abu Dhabi describes a renovation that restored the original 1970s building, added four exhibition galleries and revitalised the Sultan Fort, and says the collection includes artefacts from the region's archaeological sites, among them flint tools and arrowheads dating to the 6th millennium BCE. Its booking link leads to the museum's own site, alainmuseum.ae, which could not be read for this record, so its booking rules are not given here. This record is the museum, not the Al Ain Palace Museum and not Al Jahili Fort.
