Al Fahidi Fort
حصن الفهيدي
Al Fahidi Fort is the fort in Bur Dubai, dating to the late 1700s, that became Dubai's first museum in 1971 and has been rehabilitated by Dubai Culture for reopening as a museum.
Why go
Al Fahidi Fort is the late 18th-century fort in Bur Dubai that Dubai's Media Office describes as a former centre of governance and home to the Al Maktoum ruling family, and as the city's first museum from 1971. Dubai Culture has rehabilitated it: in February 2024 Sheikh Hamdan approved the final design, and in February 2026 the Media Office reported the final phase of the works ahead of the fort's reopening to the public as a museum, scheduled for the first half of 2026 with six main galleries. No announcement that it has reopened was found when this record was checked in October 2026. This record is the fort and the museum it houses; the separate dubai-museum candidate is proposed as its duplicate.
