Amasra Museum occupies a restored 1884 Naval School building in Kum Mahallesi, Amasra, a different building and a different address from Amasra Castle a short walk away. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism restored the building in 1976 and opened it to the public in 1982. Its collection spans five historical periods represented in the town — Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Genoese and Ottoman material — reflecting Amasra's long run as a trading harbour on the western Black Sea coast. It is the only museum in Bartın Province and pairs naturally with a walk through Amasra Castle and the old town's harbour.
