Ancient Agora of Athens

Αρχαία Αγορά

The Ancient Agora of Athens is the archaeological site of the ancient city's public square below the Acropolis, with the Temple of Hephaestus and the Stoa of Attalos.

Why go

The Ancient Agora is the excavated square of ancient Athens, which Hellenic Heritage describes as an open-air space bounded by the Acropolis, the Areopagus and the Agoraios Kolonos hill and as the centre of public life. The same page names the Temple of Hephaestus on the Agoraios Kolonos, the Stoa of Attalos and, along the foot of the hill, the Bouleuterion, the Tholos and the State Archives, and lists the site as an archaeological site with a museum. This record is the site, including the museum Hellenic Heritage lists with it; the Roman Agora is a separate site. The official ticket store, tickets.hh.gr, says entry is timed, a ticket may be changed up to two hours before the visit and tickets are not refundable. Hellenic Heritage gives the site's address as 24 Adrianou Street.
