Bern History Museum

Bernisches Historisches Museum

The Bern History Museum (Bernisches Historisches Museum) is the museum of history, archaeology and ethnography at Helvetiaplatz in Bern, which also contains the Einstein Museum.

Why go

The Bern History Museum (Bernisches Historisches Museum) opened at Helvetiaplatz in 1894 in a castle-like building by the architect André Lambert, and is run by a foundation set up in 1889 by the canton, the city and the Burgher Community of Bern, per the museum's own pages. It says its collections of history, archaeology, ethnography and numismatics hold about half a million objects, and that its permanent exhibitions cover the history of the city and canton of Bern. The integrated Einstein Museum presents Albert Einstein's life and work; it is part of this museum and is a different place from the Einstein House on Kramgasse. The museum also uses the Moser annex of 1922 and the Kubus annex built in 2006 to 2009.
