Bogor Botanical Gardens
Kebun Raya Bogor
The Bogor Botanical Gardens (Kebun Raya Bogor) are an 87-hectare botanic garden founded in 1817 in the centre of Bogor, beside the Bogor Presidential Palace.
Why go
The gardens' own site says Kebun Raya Bogor was founded in 1817 by the Dutch East Indies government, grew under botanists including Johannes Elias Teijsmann, Rudolph Scheffer and Melchior Treub, and gave rise to institutions such as the Herbarium Bogoriense and the zoological museum and laboratory of 1894. It covers 87 hectares in the city centre next to the Bogor Presidential Palace complex, with about 15,000 kinds of trees and plants. Kebun Raya Indonesia's site describes its botanic gardens as scientific conservation areas of Indonesia's national research agency BRIN that also serve visitors for recreation and education. The Bogor garden's pages link their 'Beli Tiket' (buy ticket) buttons to tiketkebunraya.id. This record is the garden, not the palace or its deer park; which gate to use is not stated here.
