Taman Nasional Gunung Gede Pangrango

Why go
The park authority, the Balai Besar Taman Nasional Gunung Gede Pangrango, gives the park's area as 24,270.80 hectares in three West Java regencies. Its history page traces protection back to the Cibodas nature reserve declared in 1889, notes that UNESCO named the Cibodas Biosphere Reserve in 1977 with the conservation area as its core zone, and says it was among the first five national parks announced on 6 March 1980. An article on the authority's site lists equipment it calls mandatory for climbers and mentions the Cibodas and Gunung Putri routes. This record is the protected area, not Mount Gede or Mount Pangrango themselves or the Cibodas Botanic Garden. Climbing permits, quotas and trail closures are set by the authority and are not stated here.
