Why go
Eltz Castle stands on a 60-metre rock surrounded on three sides by the Elzbach, in the Eltz Forest between the Eifel, the Moselle and the Rhine, according to the castle's own site. The site says the castle has been owned by the same family since it was built, that it was built over 500 years, from 1150 to 1650, in a way that shows how closely three branches of the family lived together, and that it remained unscathed by wars. Its ticket page says a ticket covers the guided tour of the castle, the inner courtyard and the Treasury, which visitors see on their own, and that guided tours can also be given in English and French. The castle's site sends drivers to its car parks, from which a shuttle bus or footpaths lead to the castle, and says drones are prohibited and photography and filming are for private use only.
